This week I had hoped to attempt seven days of Upsides, but unfortunately, it was a rough week at work and home (with lots of very funny stories, now that it is over), but only one upside to share.
On Saturday, I frequently have the time and inclination to cook multiple dishes, using lots of my CSA vegetables, and lots of pots and pans. When faced with a kitchen full of dirty dishes, and a floor that needs to be swept – again,
the upside is many times that means a drawer or cupboard is totally empty. That empty drawer or cupboard can be cleaned at this moment without having to take any items out that I will just turn around and put right back in.
I grab a disinfecting wipe, clean out all the crumbs that somehow end up in every drawer, wipe down the sides of the drawer slides and voila! One less dirty drawer nagging at me! 🙂
Yesterday, Saturday, I made a giant bowlful of finely chopped onions, celery, carrots, chard stems, peppers, and garlic. I portioned out 2 cups of the mix into each of 5 freezer bags.
As you may imagine, that created a ton of mess.
I got the whole place cleaned up, picked up the kid from basketball, reheated lunch (leftover Green Tomato Garlic Chili-posting coming this week) and then was faced with getting the rest of the green tomatoes put up for winter chili needs as well as a pile of bell and hot peppers to pickle.
The peppers went back into the fridge. There’s more room now that all the other veggies are processed.
I did have to dirty and clean the kitchen 1 more time for the green tomato/dinner work, but it was nice this morning to walk into a clean kitchen.
I need to tackle my stove. Did anyone tell you the side effect of blogging about food would be that your stove is in constant use?
I will have run the dishwasher twice today before noon! This morning my daughter was making waffles for breakfast, and she asked me to clean up the dropped salt, baking powder and cream of tartar on the counter, while she was still mixing. I was proud to see she had bought into my clean as you go philosophy!
Great!
Such a good upside to share!!
