Saturday Upsides – Learning to Relax

At Saturday Upsides this week, Bonnie talked about how she is a worrier and her husband isn’t.  The “upside” is how they balance each other out.

This gave me my upside for this week.  While I don’t think of myself as a “Type A” personality, there is always something I need to be doing and I am moving all the time.  At work, there are e-mails to read, phone calls to return, letters to write, research to complete, timeslips to fill out…. At home, there are meals to cook, dishes to wash, laundry to do, floors to vacuum, bills to pay, weeds to pull, children to nag about homework, cleaning their rooms, etc…

You get the picture. 🙂

My husband is far more relaxed.  He is late to almost everything.  He reads books,  keeps in touch with relatives and friends, watches sports, and rarely nags anyone..  His hobbies are important to him: hunting, riding dirt bikes, fishing.  Don’t get me wrong, he absolutely does his fair share around the house, but he doesn’t appear to feel like every matter needs to be handled immediately.

His relaxed approach to life forces me to slow down sometimes and let events unfold, without my input or control.  The world doesn’t fall apart.  The children don’t become feral animals.  The mundane tasks of everyday can wait an hour, or a day, or a week, while I enjoy and appreciate my life and the people I love.
Thank you Handsome!

  1. I can sooooo relate to this post! It really is an “upside” when I can realize I’m being ridiculous in my own expectations of what needs to be done. My hubby sometimes just stands back and laughs at me while I spin out of control. On a good day, I can laugh about it too! Your photos really capture the essence of your upside. Love it!

  2. So glad you shared! 🙂 We’re similar it seems. 🙂

By the way, I was wondering where in Washington you live? I notice you said Eastern. 🙂 I am just curious because I have a brother who lives in Othello. He used to live in Moses Lake. Just wondering!

I live in the Tri-Cities, about 45 minutes to an hour south of your brother. Practically neighbors! If you ever come visit, let me know. 🙂
