It seemed like I had been reading a lot about dishes combining pears and bleu cheese lately. I can’t find any of those posts to link to, so maybe I only saw it in one place and I just keep fantasizing about it? If you had a pear and bleu cheese post, please provide your link in the comments below. They really sounded wonderful!
I had two pears in my CSA box last week, and I made a special trip to the grocery store to get bleu cheese. I’ve been waiting for the pears to ripen, and finally, I CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER……
Rather than using them in a meal (I need those links!), I made what I imagine to be a very sophisticated plate of tapas.
We have the pears on the right, down the center is baba ghanoush, bleu cheese and English walnuts. And on the left are homemade bread sticks and crackers.
The kids are gone and hubbie is away, so I am thinkin’ this and a nice glass of red wine will be dinner.
Can you hear the sigh of contentment? 🙂
Unfortunately, the pear isn’t ripe yet, but it is still pretty good dipped in the baba ghanoush. The breadsticks dipped in the baba ghanoush are heavenly. I’ll talk more about the crackers and breadsticks later. Its time for dinner! 🙂
I have had a wonderful pear bleu cheese salad with candied walnuts and grilled chicken. I eat it without dressing! Or squeeze a grilled lemon over the greens … so yummy.
Sounds great! Thanks. As soon as that second pear is ripe….

Try placing your pear in a little brown paper bag. I remember this trick from childhood. Living in Alaska, we always got really green fruit and I remember mom putting bananas and pears in paper bags.
I just leave them open out side – they ripen perfectly – it usually takes about 10 ten days – I just posted a pic of my pears from the garden – you might want to check it out.
Also, check out this on combining pears and blue cheese! yum!

Thank you. That recipe looks amazing and I have lots of walnuts. Sounds like a treat for the weekend!
